Pre-operative information

Your companion has been scheduled for a procedure requiring anesthesia.  During the anesthesia numerous safety measures are used to help alleviate the potential risks.  There are numerous procedures and safety measures which may be deemed necessary or advisable for the benefit of your companion.  The safety measures are generally performed prior to, or during the anesthesia.  Other general health related procedures can be performed during the anesthesia when the patient is not aware.

The anesthetic protocol is selected on an individual basis, dependent on the patient.  Some of the criteria include:  age, health status, breed and procedure being performed.  Pain control is always considered when choosing perioperative medications.  Each patient responds differently to anesthesia and painful stimuli, we make a concerted effort to customize this process to maximize each patient’s comfort.  We routinely utilize narcotic therapy, NSAIDs, local blocks  and epidurals when appropriate.
